... is good for the GANDER...

Day 60, Grand Falls Windsor - Gander NFLD.
Dist. 106 km, 20.7 km/hr, Saddle Time 5:08
Sat July 16 2011

Well, it's 2 months since leaving Victoria, BC. I had allotted 3 months just in case, and I really had no idea how the trip would pan out. I started the trip with short miles, then gradually added more until I hit  my highest average a few weeks ago. I put longer miles earlier to give me more time to enjoy NFLD.
It felt good entering this day on the 2nd month knowing that my journey end was just around the corner.
However,...
I was not looking forward to this day as yesterday was still vivid in my brain. After having a long breakfast at the Subway, I peered out the window staring blankly at the rain., Sigh...
Happily, the weather didn't mimic yesterday. It was crappy, but rideable for sure. I had planned on another short day with Gander as my destination.
Rolling into the edge of town, I checked out the Aviation Museum. Actually, I didn't go inside, I took pics of the outdoor planes of old. Then I made my way to the Tourist Info Ce.
I asked the Tourist Info Center girl to find me cheap accommodations. She sent me down to a B&B. I had told her  was looking for a motel and she didn't tell me it was a B&B, so when I finally got there, I was surprised to see a large home in a residential area. I met the lady of the house and asked to see my room. It was spotless and ornate as hell. Not my kinda place by a long shot. A tad uncomfortable to have to decline my telephone reservation, but "stupid girl" at the info ce. goofed.
I headed back up to where I started and found home in the "Comfort Inn" instead. (which ironically was across the highway from the travel info ce.) Tim Hortons next door. Right on the Hwy. for a clean getaway. Perfect.
Took a brief tour of the town, then spent some quality time with Shirley. After spotting the garden hose out back, I new it was time to clean Shirley's gears.
The cassette was a mess. I needed my swiss army Knife to dig the caked on sludge out of the spaces. It took a while, but I got Shirley's drive feel'in fine.
I miss the cold weather gear that I had shipped home way back in Thunder Bay Ont. Maybe tomorrow will be dry and warm for a late arrival into Clarenville.
Breakfast at Subway dragged a bit as I peered out into the morning of gloom...
 A fine Resting place
Today's numbers

Serious roadside memorial (Roadcrew worker crushed by excavator)
Lots of ponds, marshes, lakes, and bogs....and beaver lodges...

Bringing some happiness to an otherwise very unhappy lamp post.
No, the pilot took the keys and went to Tim's for a "double double"
