Day 33, est. 160 km, 20km/hr, Saddle Time, 8:00
06 19 2011,
A beautiful day to ride a bicycle ! ("Surly Shirley" in my case)
Most of my day was spent riding the twists, turns and hills of "Lake Superior Provincial Park."
http://www.lakesuperiorpark.ca/ This place is an animal paradise. 105 km devoted to the natural ecosystem. No human intervention except access roads.A canoeist's playground, not bad for cycling either, as I allready said.
Great weather with some great, long climbs. Reminds me of BC.
I was happy to be riding through this place of solitary. It was truly amazing to pass through this gem of Ontario. It was a long way to go without civilization. but with fantastic weather and the comforting fact that I knew I was prepared made the journey delightful as hell.
Pancake Bay is a very nice campground, but expensive. almost $40.00.
I asked the girl at the office if there was anything nearby as far as retail is concerned. She said no. I didn't believe her as I remember seeing a sign way back telling of Native goods and stuff. So, after setting up camp, I headed down the highway (about 1 mile). Sure enough, there was a Native "Retail Mall" of sorts. I picked up Beer, a Mosquito Armour and some food. This stop was a lifesaver. Why did she not tell me ? It was only a mile down the bloody road !
I got a site right by the beach. It comes with a free Mosquito Infestation. Beer, Firewood and Mosquito Suit made it tolerable. A fantastic quiet site with too many bugs. No Problemo.
I got a fire going to ward off The Evil Bloodthirsty Flying Demons from Hell.
Highwaycat even got her paws wet in Lake Superior (I told her that the trip was over and the water was the Atlantic Ocean) Dummy. Heh heh heh.
I will have to throw this leg into the "Most Scenic" catagory. To be judged upon trip completion.
This was a good day...
Typical refuelling station
That way ...
Big birds here (biggest in Canada)
Highwaycat dials in to the road ahead...

"Mom" is best though

The camp store across from the native carver's store. A great spot for camp supplies, otherwise there is nothing around. Kinda strange seeing this on the highway.
Scary cool beach goers. (deserted otherwise)
"I told you before, they dont have speed boat rentals here !"
Quiet time
TV ad
Toes in the water, (mine)
Friendly travellers
Mosquitoman !! Got this costume at the camp store. Helps a bit, but hard to see and drinking beer is complicated
The Lake Superior Beach is only steps away
"This Blog Post was brought to you by, Muskol . Seven out of ten Mosquitos disliked Muskol , where only 60 % preferred to hate the nearest competitor. Muskol, the brand most mosquitos hate most"
These flying demons didn't seem to give a crap what I put on my skin.
Iron Chef, Look Out !!
I wasn't going to show this, but I couldn't resist. Them's gonna be some good eat'n tonight, Boy R Dee !
Nothing calms the savage beast like a $16.00 camp fire.
Roasting legs. The best mosquito turn off.
